While going through some of Grammy's things a while back I discovered a small set of quilt blocks that had been sewn together. It was just the right size for me to use as a runner on a foot stool I have in my living room. I brought it home washed it and it has been on the stool for a couple of weeks now. Today one of the kids sat on the stool and got poked. To our surprise there is a threaded needle still attatched to this piece of quilting!!
My daughter handed me the quilting..I know she was expecting that I would simply take the needle off tie up the thread and place it back on the stool..but I couldn't. It was more than just a needle and thread in a piece of quilting..it was a hello from Grammy. A reminder that most of the blankets I have slept under throughout my life were quilts that were hand sewn by her and quite often with me specifically in mind!
I have to wonder how many prayers and well wishes and just general good thoughts were put into all those quilts, not to mention the love! I am not sure I have ever put much thought into caring about myself or being warm but Grammy did!! I often times took for granted all the little things and huge things like making me a quilt every few years!!
So now I have this piece of quilting that may be insignificant to a passerby...but to me it represents love and Grammy and her quirky ways! I have no idea how in all the handling I missed the needle and thread. Quite honestly had I found it when I came across the piece I may have just took it off and tied up the thread. But as I have been having a rough week or so emotionally it was comforting to find it today! It was a hello. An I'm always with you! A reminder that actions speak louder than words. Grammy wasn't big on saying I love you, but I always felt loved by her. And most nights I wrap up all warm and snuggly in a quilt that grammy made by sewing each stich by hand!

So here is my question to you...What shall I do with this piece now? I can't bring myself to take the needle out! That is the way she left it! How do I display and preserve it without getting someone stuck ?
Creative suggestions anyone...mom suggested maybe framing it...any other thoughts??

Here is hoping that you have had someone in your life who always made you feel safe! Someone who cared if you were warm or not! Someones whose actions more than words let you know that you were loved! I have been fortunate to have a few select people in my life that were all of these things! And Grammy today is your day to be remembered!!
